Expert printmaker Theresa Pateman is returning to build on the previous copper etching courses, this time with a focus on aquatint and soft ground etching.
Tuesday 25 August 2026 • 10am–3pm • Tea and coffee provided, please bring your own lunch • Limited to six participants • £52 per person including all materials.
In this workshop Theresa will guide us through the process of copper plate etching using a soft ground and aquatint technique. Soft ground etching uses a wax ground to create soft, textured lines resembling pencil drawings. Aquatint is an etching process that allows you to create areas of tone on your soft ground plate. We’ll be using the Little John etching press and printing with black and beautiful grey tones on cotton papers. Especially suitable for those who have done some etching before, but beginners are welcome.
